When you’re in a Tom Ford movie how much time do you spend picking out what you’re going to wear?.Nocturnal Animals is now playing in limited release and expands into more theaters this week and goes wide December 9 th. Check out what he had to say in the video above and below is a list of what we talked about and some images from the film. He talked about working with Tom Ford and why he’s a great collaborator, how he was first hesitant to play the role, what he did to get ready for the part (including dropping 20 pounds), what it was like between takes when you’re playing such intense scenes, working with director Doug Liman on The Wall, and more. I guess I mostly felt like "the art world is so up its own ass" after that scene, but idk.At the Los Angeles press day I landed an exclusive video interview with Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

I'm not sure how to express how I felt about it because on the one hand, I am sick of movies acting like the only women who exist are the ~young and hot~ type, but on the other, I'm like "Okay, but are they being treated like a sideshow attraction in-universe or by the movie or both.? Like ~ooh the grotesque, how interesting, how daring to show fat older women dancing provocatively~?" idk. Watching it again knowing how it all turns out might change my opinion on it.īut I felt ambivalent about the opening scene too. It's like how Patrick Stewart said something like "People seem to only listen to old white men, so since I'm an old white man, I'm going to bring attention to the issue of abuse against women and intimate partner violence."Īnd it's been a while since I saw this movie, but I kinda felt like the movie itself was more like "Look at how this all fell apart for these people and how they'll try to hurt each other when they feel they've been wronged" as more of an observation, buuuut I'd probably have to see it again to refresh my memory. so I mean, if men who claim to be on our side will say something too, then fine, I'll take it. I know "rage" is quoted because that's the actual word he used in his tweet, but it also makes it look like they're being oddly sarcastic about it at the same time.? Personally, I'm glad to see any guys express their disgust about this because it seems like it's almost always just women who speak up and try to support each other when abuse like this come to light and unfortunately a lot people ignore us until a man chimes in. Lol yeah, that headline seemed weirdly shady to me too. And WHAT was up with that opening montage? I was sitting there thinking 'if this comes back in the plot in some meaningful way then fine, but if not it's just kinda exploitative.?' idk man. But then again, Tony just pointlessly dies because he had like 900 chances to shoot Ray and his dudes and kept hesitating, representing his perceived 'weakness' as a man or something? I just don't know. Obviously Tony was trying to punish Susan for having the abortion and not believing in him (and those two things were weirdly connected because his writing was symbolically his 'baby,' etc), but.was the movie trying to punish her? The way it ends with her alone and embarrassed feels like maybe it was. It just seemed so.pointless in some ways. I'm still trying to decide how I feel about this movie.

It almost feels like shade - "oh, you're so OUTRAGED about rape that you can go to a party and smile?!" Like, a person can have more than one emotion in a weekend, goddamn.
